Case one

The Victorian terrace

Nottingham’s terraces are beautiful, and not one of their walls is straight. A refit that lasts starts by accepting that — then building a true room inside an untrue shell.

  • Tanking behind the tile. The whole wet area is waterproofed before a single tile goes on. You’ll never see it — it’s why the wall behind your shower stays dry.
  • Falls set true. Tray and floor are checked with the level, so water goes to the drain, not the corner.
  • Setting out from the centre. Tiles are measured so the cuts land equal at both edges — the difference you can’t name but always notice.

Case two

The 1930s semi

The family bathroom in a thirties semi works hard — school mornings, bath nights, one room doing everything. So we plan it around how it’s actually used.

  • Isolation valves you can reach. Every basin, bath and WC gets its own shut-off, so a future drip is a two-minute fix, not a floor up.
  • Ventilation done properly. Extraction sized to the room and ducted outside — paint doesn’t fix condensation.
  • Floors levelled before tiling. Boards screwed down and levelled so grout lines stay true and nothing creaks at 6am.

Case three

The accessible adaptation

When a bathroom is being adapted for a parent, “level access” isn’t a slogan to us — it’s a measurement. Accessible bathroom adaptations in Nottingham are a growing part of our week, and the most exacting work we do.

  • Level-access former with true falls. No step to catch a toe, and water that still knows exactly where to go.
  • Grab rails fixed into solid timber. Anchored into the structure, not the plasterboard, because they’ll be leaned on.
